'Ensure equal rights of the persons with disabilities'

Speakers at a daylong divisional workshop here yesterday underscored the need for concerted efforts to ensure equal rights of the persons with disabilities.They suggested immediate removal of existing barriers created between the disabled and the capable persons to ensure a sound atmosphere in society. The workshop titled 'Equal Rights of the Disabled Persons in Sports, Culture and Recreation' was organised by the local chapter of 'Swid Bangladesh' under the joint collaboration of National Association of Sports for the Persons with Disability (NASPD) and ActionAid Bangladesh. Some 72 government and non-government officials including the representatives of organisations working with the persons with disability from 16 districts under Rajshahi division attended the workshop. The speakers said the attitude towards the disabled persons has started changing after the government and the non-government organisations put into place continuous efforts for their proper rehabilitation in society.
