DCC renamed the two roads after the freedom fighters in recognition of their sacrifice during the liberation war in 1971.

The street from Fakirapul intersection via Arambagh Police Camp to Motijheel Shapla Chattar has been renamed as 'Bir Pratik Shahid Rezaul Karim Manik Sarak' while the street from Toyenbi Circular Road Police Box to Station Road up to Outer Circular Road and from Station Road to DIT Road Motijheel Colony kitchen market will be known as 'Mesbah Uddin Ahmed Sabu Sarak' from now onwards.

Razia Begum, mother of Bir Pratik Rezaul, wife of Mesbah and daughter Tanzin and DCC Ward Commissioner Makbul Ahmed Akand and cultural personality Nasir Uddin Yusuf Bacchu were also present.
