BGMEA Bhaban should be demolished
Says local govt adviser

Local Government Adviser Anwarul Iqbal has once again said the 15-storey BGMEA Bhaban built on Begunbari canal in the capital should be demolished as it did not have Rajuk approval.

The adviser said this while talking to reporters after an inter-ministerial meeting yesterday.

However, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers' and Exporters Association (BGMEA) in a press release claimed that Rajuk in a board meeting held in July 2003 approved the BGMEA building plan.

BGMEA also submitted all relevant documents to the Rajuk before getting approval, the press release said.

Earlier on April 10, the local government adviser spelled out the decision to dismantle all illegal structures on the Hatirjheel and Begunbari canals from Sonargaon Hotel crossing to Rampura in the city.
