Luxury vehicle imported, sold by ex-MP seized

The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday raided a businessman's house at Baridhara in the capital and seized a Porsche jeep that detained former BNP lawmaker Mahmudul Haque Rubel sold to the businessman. Following a tip-off, a team of Rab-3 raided the car park of businessman Ilias Siddique's house at about 2:00pm and seized the vehicle. Rab officials said the jeep was sold after less than three years of use. It is illegal to sell a vehicle imported under lawmakers' quota before three years. In April, the caretaker government cancelled the privilege of duty-free car import as most of the lawmakers had misused it in the past. The joint forces arrested former lawmaker from Sherpur-3 constituency Mahmudul Haque Rubel from West Kafrul area in the city on March 18.
