Rajshahi militant suspect sent to Dhaka for quizzing

A suspected militant arrested in connection with planting bombs on the Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) campus was sent to Dhaka yesterday for quizzing by a taskforce interrogation cell.

Abul Hossain Tutul, 24, of Kajla areas was earlier taken on a 10-day remand.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) caught him from his shop 'Messrs Karim Hardwares' near Ruet main gate on Monday and handed him over to Motihar police.

Police produced him before a metropolitan court seeking 14-day remand on Wednesday. The court, however, granted him 10-day remand.

During interrogation, Tutul told the Rab that he had planted seven bombs at Ruet in the name of Jadid Al Qaeda only for creating panic among the local people.

But he denied his links with Jadid al Qaeda, Jama'atul Mujahidin Bangladesh, or any other militant outfit.

The law enforcement officials said, "Tutul's denial about his link with militant outfits are unbelievable as manufacturing of such powerful bombs and planting those serially can not be for only creating panic."

Of seven bombs recovered on different occasions from Ruet since May 22, two carry metallic plates with inscriptions of Jadid Al Qaeda.
