36 prisoners become voter in Gazipur

A total of 36 prisoners and convicts registered on the voter list when a team of the pilot project on voter list and national ID card visited two jails in Gazipur yesterday."I never imagined that I, being a prisoner, could be a registered voter," Rafiqul said, expressing his happiness as the team members took his picture and fingerprint and collected necessary information at the Gazipur district prison. Sources said the team members comprising information collecting officers, data entry operators and other officials entered the Gazipur prison at around 10:00am with two laptop computers and included the names of 31 inmates in the voter list. Later, the team went to Kashimpur Cenrtal Jail where five inmates registered. "So far, 46,000 voters registered to vote and ID cards were distributed among 22000 voters," said District Election Officer Shah Alam. He said that pilot project members are going from house to house to gather information for the voter list and national ID card.
