The arrestee was identified as Kari Osman Goni, 42, a leader of Islami Oikya Jote and Khelaphat Mojlish, sources said.

Acting on a tip-off, Sub-Inspector Mohammad Farid and Al-Amin Sheikh raided his College Gate residence at 2:00pm and arrested him.

He is accused in several cases filed with different police stations, added the sources.

Later, he was handed over to Khagrachhari police. He was being interrogated while filing of this report.

District Special Branch (DSB) sources said Osman Goni was involved in JMB activities.

But Sub-Inspector Prabir Kumar Biswas of Sadar police station said they are investigating into the matter of his JMB involvement and will comment on it once the investigation is over.
