KCCI president arrested for double passport

Police yesterday arrested Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) President Shaharuzzaman Martuza at his residence at Bhairab Strand road under Khulna Sadar Police Station on charges of holding two international passports.The law enforcers raided the house of the KCC president at 7:15pm and arrested him. They also seized an international passport from his possession. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Asaduzzaman of Khulna Sadar Police Station said the KCCI president was arrested under section 11(A) of the Passport Act, 1973 for keeping two international passports in his possession. Sub-Inspector (SI) Shiba Prashad of the police station lodged an FIR (first information report) as complainant while SI Jamil Hossain has been made investigation (IO) officer of the case. Shaharuzzaman Martuza is also member-secretary of BNP Khulna City Convening Committee (mayor faction). Police said they are also investigating the allegations of extortion and corruption against the KCC president. Martuza went to Pakistan on May 21 to attend an International Trade Fair held in Islamabad. He returned to Khulna on May 28.
