JU students vow to fight corruption
Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have vowed to stand against corruption at the inaugural session of a concert held on the university campus recently, says a press release.Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), Committee of Concerned Citizens (Savar) and the 30th batch of the university jointly organised the concert against corruption and a cartoon exhibition to mark the end of the academic year of the 30th batch. Popular singer Aiub Bachhu and a young band group of the university performed at the concert upholding the motto -- 'Cultivating light in the roots of darkness ... invincible youth shall surely resist corruption.' The convener of the farewell ceremony of the 30th batch, Shafiqul Islam, stated their strong commitment at the beginning of the concert. In his inaugural speech, founder of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra and TIB trustee Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed asked the students to uphold the spirit against corruption. "A corrupt person can never become happy," he said. Prof Sayeed asked the students to practise honesty and hard work in their life in order to resist corruption and become good citizens. Vice-Chancellor Prof Khandaker Mustahidur Rahman, Pro-VC Prof Enamul Haque Khan, convener of the Committee of Concerned Citizens (Savar) Jainal Abedin Khan, Prof Syed Md Kamrul Ahsan and Prof ATM Atikur Rahman also spoke. During the concert, singer Ayub Bachhu also urged the youths to come forward to resist corruption. In response, the students affirmed their commitment by raising their hands three times and saying 'NO' to corruption.
