Five juvenile correctional centre inmates escape

Five prisoners escaped from the Juvenile Correctional Centre at Tongi in the early hours of yesterday, but one of them was arrested in Savar at noon. The five -- Md Jasimuddin, 18, Md Mamun, 13, Akkas Mia, Md Rubel, 14, and Hamid Khan, 16, -- escaped after dismantling the grille of a ventilator in a toilet on the first floor of a five-storey dormitory at College Road sometime between 1:00am and 3:00am, sources said. Tongi police managed to arrest Hamid at Hemayatpur in Savar. Some officials of the centre said the building was inaugurated in October last year and there are many construction faults in the building. The construction faults and low quality construction work made it easy for the inmates to escape, they added.
