CA inaugurates indigenous fish preservation campaign

Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed yesterday formally inaugurated a countrywide campaign to preserve indigenous fishes, many of which are becoming extinct due to destruction of their natural habitats and unplanned pisciculture.The head of the caretaker government launched the Indigenous Species of Fish Preservation and Expansion Campaign 2007 through releasing fish fry in a pond in his home district. He released the fry of Shing, Koi, Pholy, Tangra, Pabda, Ruhi, Katla and Mrigel in the pond of Government Haroganga College in the morning. The slogan of the fortnight-long campaign is 'Rakkha Korle Deshi Machh, Pusti Pabe Baro Mas' (Protect indigenous fish, get nutrition for 12 months).
