FFs united at Bangabandhu's call in '71,says Gen Moeen

Army Chief General Moeen U Ahmed yesterday called for a national unity to build Bangladesh as a prosperous nation.

"Now our responsibility is to build a sovereign and prosperous Bangladesh through concerted efforts," he said while laying the foundation stone of Bir Srestha Shaheed Ruhul Amin Library and Memorial Museum at Bagpanchra village in Sonaimuri upazila in the afternoon.

Speaking at a civic gathering at a local school ground on the occasion, the army chief said the freedom fighters had joined the War of Independence at the call of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1971 and liberated the country.

On December 10, 1971, Bir Srestha Shaheed Ruhul Amin embraced martyrdom in the enemy bombardment while sailing warship "Shapla" from Mongla to Khulna.

General Moeen said the nation is proud of the independence and indebted to the heroic sons who sacrificed their lives for country's independence. He said the government has decided to incorporate the history of national heroes in textbooks for class one to nine.

This will help the new generation to learn the true history of the Bangalee nation, said General Moeen, whose force is acting in aid of the present caretaker government.

The civic gathering was also addressed, among others, by Noorjahan Begum, sister of Bir Srestha Shaheed Ruhul Amin, DC Habibul Kabir Chowdhury, District Muktijoddha Unit Commander Mozammel Huq.
