Reconsider decision to demolish part of buildings
Owners urge CDA

Owners of the buildings, who were earlier notified by the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) to demolish some portions of their establishments, urged CDA to reconsider its decision considering their financial losses.

Addressing a press conference here, the owners under the banner of Nagorik Samaj claimed that they had constructed their buildings with proper approval of the CDA keeping sufficient space on the front of each establishment.

In a written statement, Rotarian Mohammad Illyas said CDA recently served notices upon the owners of the buildings on both sides of the Airport Road to demolish some portions of their establishments.

"CDA recently served notices for demolishing at least five feet on the front side of our buildings," he said on behalf of the owners of the buildings of Ward No 38, 39, 40 and 41.

Haji Mazharul Hoq, Dr Mohammad Nurul Alam, Haji Mohammad Selim and Haji Mohammad Jalal Uddin also addressed the press conference held at Chittagong Press Club.

They called for cancellation of the CDA notice and urged the government to take into consideration the issue as at least 20,000 families on both sides of the Air Port Road would face serious financial problems, if this decision is implemented.

They referred to the huge space on both sides of the 120-feet Airport Road with less traffic congestion and said the authorities could easily expand it as much as possible.
