Plants mark record power generation

The country produced the highest amount of power in its history yesterday. A record 3,880 megawatt (MW) of power was generated leaving the previous record of 3,400MW well behind.Power Secretary Fouzul Kabir Khan said timely maintenance and rehabilitation of power plants, following government orders, has led to this success. In some cases, power plants used to go out of order for months, as maintenance work in plants was not done on time, he said. He said the production of power could even reach 4,000MW, if proper supply of gas could be ensured. The Rural Power Company Ltd (RPCL) plant in Mymensingh generated 70MW yesterday, he added.
