The Public Service Commission (PSC) has taken a number of measures for viva voce of the controversial 27th BCS examinations scheduled to begin on July 29.Members of the viva board will refrain from using cellphone or land phones during the spoken exams, a press note said. "The board chairman or the members cannot be reached over phone while the viva is on. However, two phone numbers--9114304 and 9117265--will remain open for anyone having urgent messages for the board members," it read. In case of emergency, a member can leave the board on permission from the chairman, but in that event he won't be allowed to sit the board on that day again. Candidates have been asked not to carry a cellphone as no-one will be allowed to use mobile phone on the PSC premises on the exam day, the press note continued. Besides, examinees will not be permitted to talk to the PSC employees on the commission premises. Following three writ petitions filed by a group of aggrieved candidates, the High Court (HC) on July 22 issued a rule upon the PSC to explain why its decision cancelling the viva voce results of the 27th Bangladesh Civil Service examinations should not be declared illegal. It also ordered the PSC not to publish results until the case is disposed of. Earlier on May 30, the government cancelled the viva voce results amid allegations of nepotism and corruption in the process.
