4 members of 'Aggyan Party' jailed for 4 yrs

A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced four members of an 'Aggyan Party' to four years' rigorous imprisonment for looting Tk 5.70 lakh from a house at Savar in July 2004.Judge Mohammad Moklesur Rahman of the Seventh Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court handed down the verdict to Sahidur Rahman, Al Amin, Mohammad Abul and Ripu Begum. The court also fined them Tk 2,000 each. If they fail to pay, they will have to serve two more months in jail. According to the prosecution, Ripu Begum along with three others had drugged her landlord Abdul Mannan's wife and took away the money from an almirah on July 4, 2004. Following the incident, Mannan filed a case against Ripu and three others with Savar Police Station the same day. The investigation officer pressed charges against them on December 30 the same year.
