Hasina gets a week to submit wealth report

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday extended the deadline by another seven working days for submitting wealth statement of detained Awami League President and former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

The former prime minister now has to submit her wealth statement to the ACC by August 8.

The commission extended the deadline in response to a petition by Sheikh Hasina, seeking seven more days to collect necessary papers to prepare her wealth statement.

On July 17, the ACC served notices on the two former prime ministers--Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina--asking them to submit their wealth statements within seven working days. Khaleda's notice was sent to her cantonment residence while that of Hasina to the sub-jail through the prison authorities.

Khaleda received the notice the following day (July 18) and Hasina received it a day later.

On Wednesday, the ACC, upon a petition by Khaleda Zia, extended the deadline by another seven days to submit her wealth statement.

The notices to the former prime ministers were issued in accordance with section 26(1) of the ACC Act, 2004 and section 17 of the ACC Rules, 2007 allowing them seven working days to comply with the directives.
