A speeding bus on the wrong side of the road ran over a nine-year-old schoolboy at Kuril on Progati Sarani yesterday killing him on the spot.Rifat Ahmed was on his way to deliver lunch to his brother, who works in a nearby garment factory, when he was run over by the bus around 1:00pm. "Rifat went out telling his mother that he would have his lunch at home after he delivers his brother lunch, but he had to leave us forever," Rifat's father Kamal Uddin, a CNG-autorickshaw driver, broke down in tears uttering these words at Dhaka Medical College (DMC) morgue. Kamal told reporters that usually Rifat, a class-II student of Kuril Government Primary School, had lunch after school and then delivered lunch to his brother Mithun. Police quoting witnesses said a train was coming and railway employees closed the level crossing gate at Kuril on both sides. As Rifat was crossing the road, a speeding bus of Kuril-Sadarghat route crossed the level crossing from the wrong side of the road and ran him over. Locals chased down fleeing bus driver Golam Mostafa, 35. Police rushed to the spot and saved the driver from the public wrath before taking him in custody. They seized the bus as well. Half-an-hour later police recovered Rifat's body and sent it to DMC morgue for autopsy.
