Reform issue
Farhad, On e-mail
This refers to the article 'Reforms and the Military' by Mr. Nurul Huda. My question to him is that India and Nepal have established democracy without the intervention of the military so why can't Bangladesh and Pakistan have the same? Democracy is an evolutionary process. It needs to be given time to reach a mature state. From 1972 to 1975 and from 1996 to 2001 the AL ruled. From 1991 to 1996 and from 2001 to 2006 the BNP ruled. The military ruled Bangladesh in all other periods. The military therefore had most of the opportunity to rule the country. So, I don't blame the political parties only for the current mess.
