The violent storms also damaged over 400 thatched houses in the districts, rendering several thousand people homeless.

Our Tangail correspondent reported that a tornado ripped into 20 villages in three upazilas of the district at around 4:00pm, leaving one person dead and 30 others injured.

Romesh Mandol, 30, of Moteshwar village under Basail upazila died in house collapse.

Besides, over 100 thatched houses were also damaged and a large number of trees uprooted by the storm that lasted only a few minutes.

The affected villages are Joshihati, Piron, Nedar, Moteshwar, Poulee, and Suruj in Basail upazila; Aloa, Bhabani, Garail, Kazipur, Bazidpur and Paschimpara in Sadar upazila; and Hilora, Katakhali, Baniara, Doklahati, Purbo Goran, Boilanpur, Ghonapara and Patilapara in Mirzapur upazila.

Four of the injured were admitted to Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital while the rest given first aid at different hospitals and clinics.

In Barisal, at least eight people were injured and over 200 thatched houses damaged as a tornado struck three villages in Muladi upazila yesterday morning.

Nazrul Islam, chairman of Charkalekha Union Parishad, told our correspondent that the storm hit Baliakandi, Laxmipur and Jalalabad villages of the union at about 5:00am and lasted only three to four minutes.

The injured were admitted to Muladi Upazila Health Complex. Of them, the condition of two--Abdul Aziz Boayati, 44, and Majid Sardar, 62--was stated to be critical.

The homeless people have taken shelter at local educational institutions.

Our Chandpur correspondent adds: A tornado lashed Shahpur, Nowjan and Pearikhola villages under Nayergaon Union of Motlab upazila at 8:00am and lasted for three to five minutes.

At least 20 people were injured and more than 100 thatched houses damaged in the violent storm.

The injured are undergoing treatment at upazila heath complex. Officials from upazila headquarters visited the villages and distributed relief among the affected people.

In Shariatpur, a tornado lashed Telipara and Chamta villages in Noria upazila at about 5:00am.

At least five people were injured and over 30 tin-roofed houses damaged in the villages by the violent storm.

The storm also damaged standing crops and uprooted electric poles, snapping power supply to the affected area.
