Saifur meets son at Dhaka jail

Former finance minister M Saifur Rahman along with four other family members met his detained son Naser Rahman at the Dhaka Central Jail yesterday.

Jail officials said Saifur Rahman, Naser's uncle Rafiqul Islam, brother Kaiser Rahman, daughter Ambia Rahman and son Nabil Rahman came to the jail gate at 10:45am.

They had a 30-minute conversation with Naser at the office of Jail Superintendent Golam Haider. They left the jail premises at 11:15am.

Naser and his relatives became emotional during the meeting and Naser inquired about the other family members, the jail officials said, adding that they also discussed the cases filed against the detained former BNP lawmaker.

Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) Major Shamsul Haider Siddiqui told newsmen at the jail gate that relatives can meet a detained person at the jail once a fortnight as per the jail code.

The army-led joint forces arrested Naser on February 4 on various charges including illegally occupying government land and manipulating tenders.
