More donations for flood-hit people
Relief work continues


Different government and non-government organisations continued to donate to the Chief Adviser's Relief and Welfare Fund and distribute relief among the flood-affected people yesterday.

UNB reports: In response to the Chief Adviser's call, more government and private organisations and individuals yesterday donated Tk 8,95,07,966.31 and 2,000 US dollars to the Chief Adviser's Relief and Welfare Fund for the flood victims.

The donations, both in the form of cheques and cash, were handed over to Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed at his office.

Fifteen organisations and individuals made the donations. They include PKSF, Commerce Ministry, LGRD and Cooperative Ministry, BASIC Bank, Janata Bank, BTMA, GrameenPhone, Siemens, Otobi Ltd, Eastern Bank Ltd, Islamic Bank Consultative Forum, Butterfly Marketing Ltd, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Dhaka Stock Exchange Ltd.

Dr Aminul Huq, who works at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and his wife donated 2,000 US dollars.

Tk 19,50,57,878.18 and 2000 USD has so far been given directly to the Chief Adviser for his relief fund in five consecutive days since Saturday.

Meanwhile, Tk 11 crore received by the CA's Relief Fund was allocated on an emergency basis on Tuesday for 15 districts hit hardest by the flooding.

Australia
Meanwhile, Australia has donated 90,000 US dollar for the flood victims of Bangladesh through United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

FBCCI
A team of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) led by its President Mir Nasir Hossain yesterday distributed relief among the flood victims in Manikganj, says a press release.

Later Mir Nasir at a meeting called upon the businessmen to stand by the flood-affected people.

Meanwhile, another team of FBCCI led by Vice President Dewan Sultan Ahmed and Director Abdul Wahed distributed relief among the flood victims in Rangpur, Kurigram, Nilfamari and Lalmonirhat yesterday.

Agriculture Adviser C S Karim joined the FBCCI team at Tista Barrage in Nilfamari and distributed relief among the flood victims on behalf of FBCCI.

Warid Telecom
Warid Telecom yesterday distributed relief among flood-affected people in Manikganj, says a press release.

A Warid Telecom team led by CEO Muneer Faruqui handed over relief materials to 500 flood-affected people at flood camps in Manikganj Model School, Manikganj High School and Pashchim Dashara Primary School.

DU relief work
DU correspondent reports: Dhaka University (DU) authorities and different organisations will begin relief work for the flood-affected people tomorrow.

Besides, different departments, residential dormitories, dean offices and professional bodies will donate money to the current account “Dhaka University Relief Works Conducting Committee” No - 71013958 of Sonali Bank, DU branch.

Meanwhile, the authorities yesterday allotted spaces to nine people on behalf of their organisations, most of them are students' fronts of political parties, at DU Central Students' Union (Ducsu) building, Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) and Science Cafeteria.

The organisations are Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), Bangladesh Chhatra Union (BCU), Chhatra Federation, Chhatra Front, Prapod, Bannarto Sahojogita Kendra and Sammilito Sangskritik Jote.

Bannarto Sahojogita Kendra at a press conference yesterday urged all to send financial help for the flood victims to the Sonali Bank Current Account No- 34075945.

Narayanganj
Our correspondent from Narayanganj adds: The district administration and joint forces jointly distributed relief among the flood victims in Signboard area of Siddhirganj yesterday.

The affected people were given rice, lentil, potato, water purifying tablet and cash money.

Prime Bank
Prime Bank Limited approved Tk 1 crore for the flood-affected people as part of its corporate social responsibility, says a press release yesterday.

The relief operation will be concentrated to worst affected areas in Manikganj, Munshiganj, Netrokona, Jamalpur, Mymensingh, Rajbari, Shariatpur, Gaibandha and Kurigram.

Rahimafrooz (Bangladesh) Ltd
Rahimafrooz (Bangladesh) Ltd. has distributed dry food, orsaline and water purification tablets among 10,000 flood-affected families Sunamganj, says a press release.

Rahimafrooz employees took part in the programme.

Staff correspondent adds: Dhaka Stock Exchange and Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) donated Tk 20 lakh and Tk 10 lakh respectively to CA's relief fund.

German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development donated 5 lakh Euro on August 5. The ministry said the money would go to the World Food Programme so it could send extra supplies of food and drinking water to the affected areas.

Besides, the German Foreign Office allocated an additional amount of 1 lakh Euro to NETZ, a German NGO, on August 6 for relief work.

Over 44000 Brac staff around the country yesterday contributed Tk 70 lakh to Brac's flood relief operations.

Meanwhile, University of Dhaka officials and staff, Bangladesh Open University (BOU), National University (NU) and Shikkhak Karmachari Oikya Jote have decided to contribute one day's salary of all their representatives to CA's relief fund.

Besides, Banglalink has distributed relief materials among 1300 flood affected people in Sariakandi and Dhunot of Bogra district.

Correction
Unicef Representative Louis Georges Arsenault at a meeting with Foreign Affairs Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury on Tuesday said the UN agency would provide relief worth between 3 and 4 million dollars for the flood victims.

But in a report published in The Daily Star yesterday, the amount was inadvertently mentioned as Tk 3 lakh to 4 lakh.
