Road accidents kill 7


At least seven people were killed and over 15 others injured in separate road accidents in Gazipur, Munshiganj and Pabna yesterday.

A correspondent from Gazipur reports: Three people were killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Telipara in Gazipur yesterday.

The dead were identified as garments workers Nurunnahar Rubi, 21, and Shantu Mia, 40, and an unidentified woman, 25.

The accident occurred when a truck hit a tempo at Telipara of Gazipur Sadar while the victims were going by the tempo.

Local people sent the bodies to Gazipur Sadar Hospital.

A correspondent from Munshiganj adds: At least three people were killed and over 15 others injured in a road accident on Dhaka -Maoa highway at Bejgaon under Srinagar Upazila yesterday.

Police said the accident occurred when two Maoa-bound buses from Dhaka tried to overtake on Dhaka -Maoa highway at Bejgaon. The buses fell into a nearby ditch, leaving Ripon, 30, and Jalil, 25, and an unidentified woman aged about 30 dead.

Of the injured, 15 were rushed to different hospitals.

Our correspondent from Pabna adds: A man was killed when an overloaded Truck hit him at Ruppur More of Ishwardi upazila yesterday.

The dead was identified as Nabir Uddin, 35, son of Shutka Malitha of village Fakiraspur in Ishwardi.

Police and locals said an overloaded truck knocked down Nabir Uddin at around 1:00pm when he was crossing the road, leaving him dead on the spot.

Agitated people put up barricade on the road following the accident. They also caught the truck driver and helper and handed over them to police.
