A clash between police and locals demonstrating against frequent power cuts left at least 30 people including three cops injured at Kamrangirchar early Saturday. The demonstrators vandalised the power office at Rasulbagh and a police vehicle during the protest. Police arrested nine people and sent them to court. Infuriated at repeated outages since the evening, several hundred people came out of their houses after midnight and attacked the power office at around 1:30am. As three policemen on patrol approached the protesters and tried to drive them off, they were given severe beatings. Soon additional police force rushed to the scene and baton-charged the crowd, triggering off chase and counter-chase. During the hour-long clash, police fired blank shots to disperse the mob. Two cases have been filed with the Kamrangirchar Police Station against 800 unnamed people.
