Exhibition at National Art Gallery extended
Proceeds from 196 artworks to go to flood victims


The ongoing art exhibition organised jointly by Chattagram Charushilpi Porshod and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) at the National Art Gallery at BSA has been extended. The exhibition that began on August 3 will continue till August 27 and the proceeds will be donated to the Chief Adviser's relief fund, briefed the organisers at a press conference on August 10 at the plaza of National Art Gallery.

Director General of BSA Quamrul Hassan ndc, president of Chattagram Charushilpi Porshod Swapan Acharya and Director of the Department of Fine Arts of BSA Nazrul Haque were the discussants at the press conference.

Swapan Acharya said, "Initially we organised the exhibition to promote young artists who have graduated from Chittagong University. We wanted to do something for the flood-affected people too. So, we decided that we would donate fifty percent of the proceeds from sales of the artworks to the Chief Adviser's relief fund. We are grateful to the BSA authority for allowing us to use the National Art Gallery free of charge."

Director General of BSA Quamrul Hasan ndc, said, "The employees of BSA have donated their monthly salary to the Chief Adviser's relief fund. Moreover, we are trying to convince the cultural groups and artists to donate to the flood victims. We will request the government offices and banks to buy the artworks from the exhibition to help the flood-affected people. Through proper channels we will also request foreign delegates to buy artworks."

One hundred and ninety six artworks on different mediums such as oil, acrylic, watercolour, mixed media, wood, woodcut, dry point, charcoal, poster colour and digital, by hundred and one artists are on display. Except Hashi Chakraborti and K.M.A. Kayyum, all are young artists. Vibrant colours like red, green, blue, black, purple and others have been used in most of the works. Paintings feature figurative, abstract, semi-abstract and surrealistic themes.
