Extolling the positive effects of the disastrous flood, Communication Adviser Maj Gen (retd) MA Matin yesterday said there would be a boost in agriculture produce after the flood is over. "Flooding has its positive side also, if we can properly supply seeds and other necessary things to peasants, there would be a huge harvest after the flood," Matin, also the adviser to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, said. At the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs yesterday he was speaking to freedom fighters who went there to hand over a cheque for use in relief distribution. About 200 freedom fighters under the banner of "Jagroto Muktijoddha Kalyan Samity" went to the ministry and handed over the cheque worth Tk 1 lakh to the adviser. Saying that the flood situation is very bad, Matin, however, added that they would be able to overcome this devastation. The retired major general hoped, "Divine help from Allah would certainly come [to help flood-affected people]." Recalling his recent visits to flood-affected areas, Matin said, "People in the flood-affected areas are not in that [unbearable] miserable condition, they are well." Praising their mental strength, Matin said they were not too worried about the devastating flood. "I asked people about their condition, and amidst sufferings they told me that they were not in a bad condition, they were well," he said. The government is well aware of the situation, besides the joint taskforce and the army have also been engaged to help overcome the situation, the adviser said.
