Jhalakathi poura chairman gets 10 yrs' RI


A court here yesterday sentenced expelled BNP leader and Jhalakati municipality chairman Abdul Halim Gazi to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment for posseing illegal arms.

Rabiul Hassan, judge of Barisal Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal, handed down the punishment under Section 19(ka) of Arms Act in presence of the accused after examining 8 witnesses and evidences.

Court sources said Halim Gazi was arrested from his Jhalakathi town residence on March 10 by joint forces.

During interrogation he confessed possessing illegal arms and handed over a revolver to joint forces on March 11.
