"Mastermoshai": Documentary on Santosh Gupta premiered


Esteemed journalist, writer and columnist Santosh Gupta inspired the people in all progressive movements, including the Liberation War in 1971. He inspired the people through his writings at times of national transition and difficult days of the country.

Members of Santosh Gupta Smriti Parishad recently, expressed their determination to keep his ideals alive through activities such as a biographical documentary titled Mastermoshai, directed by Nishat Jahan Rana.

The documentary was premiered on August 11 at Poet Sufia Kamal Auditorium of National Museum.

In the documentary, different aspects of Santosh Gupta's life spanning nearly eight decades were highlighted through interviews with Sardar Fazlul Karim, Fayez Ahmed, Pranesh Shomaddar, Kazi Madina, Abul Hasnat, Nini Wahed, Monaem Sarker and Santosh Gupta's wife Gauri Gupta.

Earlier, the programme started with Bulbul Moholanobish rendering a song of meditation, Tumi nirmolo koro mongolo kore, molino mormo muchhaye. A discussion participated by professor Kabir Chowdhury, journalist Fayez Ahmed, Nishat Jahan Rana and litterateur Selina Hossain was also held. The programme was presided over by Monaem Sarker.

Kabir Chowdhury described him as a courageous and secular individual of integrity. Journalist Fayez Ahmed shared memories of Santosh Gupta as a fellow journalist and political activist. Santosh Gupta upheld the cause of common people throughout his life, said Selina Hossain.

Monaem Sarker recalled his active participation as an assistant secretary of the Information Department of the then Bangladesh government in exile, during the Liberation War.
