An evening of rain songs by Nibedon

Cultural organisation Nibedon arranged a programme titled Shatoborsher Borshar Gaan at Natmandol, Dhaka University recently, to celebrate the rainy season. The programme featured songs on rain, composed during the period of 1900-2000. Veteran artist Imdad Hossain, noted lyricist Rafiquzzaman and journalist Kamal Lohani were present at the event.The programme began with a group rendition of a Tagore song Hridoy amar nacherey. Megher porey megh jomechhey and Mon mor megher shangitey, two popular Tagore songs were also performed. Songs of D.L. Ray, Atul Prasad, Nazrul and songs of yesteryears popularised by Pranab Ray were also presented at the programme. The artistes then went on to perform a Salil Chowdhury classic Aai bristi jhepey, Shah Abdul Karim's Dewya korchhey megh meghali, Sudhin Das Gupta's Nach mayuri nachre and more. Anup Bhatyacharya, Biswajit Ray, Mahuya Rahman, Nilotpal Sadhya, Farhana Akhter and others participated at the show. Earlier, members of the organisation raised funds for the flood-victims from the audience.
