Electronic University U21 Global Inaugurated
Build knowledge-based society
President urges well-off section


President Iajuddin Ahmed called upon various organisations and well-off sections of the people to help foster talents and genius for building a knowledge-based society that could lead the nation on a higher plane of development.

"Education, both general and technical, is the main tool to elevate the intrinsic value of every individual with a view to fostering knowledge and wisdom," he said.

Iajuddin, while inaugurating the Electronic University U21 Global yesterday, also expressed the hope that all concerned, including students, teachers, guardians, as well as the civil society would come forward to build a healthy and prosperous society for the well-being of the nation.

Aiminlife organised the function at a city hotel for the launch of the Electronic University U21 Global and Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Scholarship Awards for poor but bright and meritorious students.

U21 is an institution that compiles 19 of the world's leading universities to provide online education and training to students, academics and researchers.

Iajuddin said Bangladesh, as a developing country, is striving hard for her rapid and sustainable development. Capable human resources enriched with IT knowledge are needed to cope with the challenges ahead and to attain desired and sustainable development.

"With this end in view, the role of information technology and its application are of paramount importance in our country," he said. He hoped that the Electronic University U21 Global would be able to contribute significantly to the nation in disseminating IT knowledge to students and professionals.

Iajuddin wished that this online university would undertake appropriate curricula in consonance with world- class standards for the benefit of the students.

The competitive nature of the global economy and the digital divide pose challenges that could be responded to only by harnessing skilled and efficient human resources, he said.

In an era of market economy, thus, the knowledge of information technology and its application is immensely important in all spheres of life to face the challenges of the 21st century.

President thanked the organisers for innovating the new dimension of online education based on latest information technology.
