Bus dacoity in Jhenidah


Highwaymen stabbed nine people including driver and helper of a bus and looted cash and valuables worth Tk 3 lakh from passengers at Bittipara village on Jhenidah-Kushtia highway, passengers said.

Passengers said, When a Khulna-bound passengers bus reached the spot from Kushtia at about 10 pm Sunday, a gang of highwaymen, in guise of passengers, climbed the bus and attacked the passengers. As the driver and the helper tried to resist the criminals, they stabbed them indiscriminately and looted cash and valuables including gold ornament and mobile phone. At that time seven passengers were also injured.

Of the injured, driver Humayun Kabir 45, helper Jasim, 26, and passenger Ashraful Islam, 30, were rushed to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital. Rest others were admitted to different clinics. The driver's condition is stated to be critical.
