Four people of the same family were killed when a wall collapsed on their thatched house in Noyapara of Maheshkhali upazila in Cox's Bazar yesterday during heavy downpours. The victims were identified as Nasir Uddin, 38, his wife Hosne Ara Begum, 30, and their children Habibur Rahman, 7, and Ariful Islam, 5. Police with the help of locals recovered their bodies and sent them for autopsy. Met office sources said at least 167mm of rainfall was recorded in Cox's Bazar from 11:00am Saturday to 11:00am yesterday. The downpour affected normal activities there and caused water logging in the low-lying areas.
