6th bridge with Chinese aid under construction

China has assisted Bangladesh in building five friendship bridges in the country since 1980s and the sixth is now under construction by China Road and Bridge Company Limited.

Communications Minister Nazmul Huda told Xinhua that the friendship bridges assisted by the Chinese government have greatly improved the communication situation in Bangladesh.

He said the building of the friendship bridges has also deepened the feelings between the peoples of the two countries.

The sixth friendship bridge is situated in Munshiganj district, 37 kilometers south-east of the capital Dhaka. It is being built over Dhaleshwari river. The bridge is 1,521 meters in length, and 10 meters in width.

The Chinese and Bangladeshi governments had signed agreement to build the bridge on December 27, 2004, with a total investment of about 17.6 million US dollars.
