Consensus govt Huda's new formula

Communications Minister Nazmul Huda has come up with the idea of forming a consensus government to be led by BNP.

In an interview with a private television channel yesterday, Huda, also a vice president of ruling BNP, suggested that the main opposition Awami League should be offered 60 parliamentary seats while its allies another 14 seats.

He also advocated introducing a quota of seats for Jatiya Party (Ershad) and Jamaat-e-Islami.

"Good leaders of some small parties like Dr Kamal Hossain and Rashed Khan Menon should also get a chance in the parliament," he said in the interview.

The BNP leader however ruled out the opposition's demands for reforms in the caretaker government and the Election Commission (EC), saying that they are unnecessary.
