35-km tailback on Dhk-Ctg highway

Hundreds of passengers remained stuck for more than six hours after a covered van and a truck collided on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Chandina upazila of Comilla Friday creating a 35-kilometre tailback.
Describing the incident, Muhammad Hasan, a sergeant of Elliotganj Highway Police, said a Dhaka-bound truck and Chittagong-bound covered van collided head-on at Chhoygharia around 7:00am, halting traffic on the busy highway.
On information police rushed in and had removed the damaged vehicles from the road around 10:00am, reports our correspondent in Comilla.
Hundreds of vehicles including buses and trucks meantime queued up from Chhoygharia of Chandina to Gouripur of Daudkandi till 1:00pm, the police official said.
Police seized the vehicles but failed to nab the drivers as they fled the scene soon after the accident.
