Comilla University bans political activities
Comilla University authorities have imposed a ban on rallies, processions and other political activities on the campus for an indefinite period since Tuesday.
The decision came from an emergency meeting of the university proctorial body Monday night, reports our Comilla correspondent.
Proctor AKM Raihan Uddin told The Daily Star that the authorities imposed the restriction to prevent any untoward incident on the campus centering the rallies called by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) scheduled for Tuesday.
The restrictions, which came into effect from 6:00am, would continue until further order from the authorities, the proctor said.
The leaders and activists of the university unit JCD, the student wing of the main opposition BNP, called for a rally on the campus to mark the sixth anniversary of jail release day of BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman, campus sources said.
On the other hand, the university unit of BCL, the student wing of ruling Awami League, decided to hold a rally protesting the recent attack on its Rajshahi University unit president Towhid Al Tuhin by Shibir men.
