Gift Giving Be Different
The joy of giving is ineffable. The pleasure of watching the blissful eyes of your loved ones when you bestow them with gifts is really priceless. Take a moment, to imagine and predict how the recipient will react to the gift which you have in mind for them. Gifts can come in all types and colours and sizes and they can be anything. Apart from clothes, jewellery and shoes, this Eid, find something different to lighten up the lovely faces of your loved ones.
Let us embrace this season's Eid bringing a little variety in our gifts. For starters, potted plants can be a good choice. Green lovers like to watch plants grow over the years as they grow old with them; plants are keepsakes. Flowering plants sound extremely pleasant especially if they bloom flowers throughout the year. You can also add a set of garden tools as a gift if the person is into gardening. On the other hand, animal lovers will be delighted with a new pet, provided they have enough space and energy to take care of it. A cute fish in a bowl or an adorable little kitten or puppy or rabbit will surely brighten up those faces that are fond of animals.
For food lovers, home-made cookies, curries, cupcakes and brownies or any other food have always been an endearing way to show love. Since food is one of the main aspects of this festival, making something for your special ones or even getting them what they love to eat from outside is not a bad idea. You can always get the ones who love to cook new cookbooks to make them cook what you want to eat later someday. In fact, how about giving a scrapbook with 'for your next million dollar idea' written on the cover, for the person to write down any new recipes that strikes their mind every now and then?
You can gather old pictures that evoke old memories and make a sort of travel album and present it to your loved ones because the tradition of photo albums has become redundant. You could even make a photo frame yourself and put an old favourite picture inside. Get out from the digital world and print out your photographs to make a tangible collage, which would be precious. Books have also always been popular as gifts.
The internet has some exciting sites where you can find directions to make things on your own from the simplest things around and give to someone. Making coasters for the dining tables and brightly painted camera straps for your photographer friends and also using the glass mason jars for putting photographs inside or candles as decorations for instance. The coasters can come in all designs and can display anything. Google images have some interesting things if you want to look it up. Sew up a silk cape for your super hero kid. Girls perhaps would prefer jewellery. You can use beads and strings to make colourful bracelets and pendants, or even buy them.
Cards have always been a great way to express feelings. This season, get all creative with your card ideas. You can cut out colourful papers and assemble them together to form a bright and attractive card and write all that you want to inside it. Other ideas can be making your loved one an audio CD that would contain all their favourite melodies and the best part of this is this can be done for people of all age. Or even an assembly of some of their favourite movies which will turn out as a source of great entertainment. You could also make pieces of jewellery of interesting designs, and also design graphic T-shirts, especially for teenagers. You could bring a swing home as a gift for someone to hang it from the ceiling. Everyone likes to sit on the swing, no matter what their age.
Glass jars containing candles make really nice gift.
Some people like really old things and would love antique gifts or even gifts that just look vintage. For senior citizens CDs of vintage records or something that brings out nostalgia can be a desirable gifts, for example a framed print out of an old newspaper or any vintage items like coins, old stamps or envelopes that used to be around in old days. Membership cards to recreational centres or clubs as gifts can be also beneficial so that they could enjoy themselves and meet new people.
Giving money to the needy as charity on behalf of someone or in someone's name is a noble act as well as a very special gift. Gift vouchers are not very uncommon as gifts. But nothing beats being able to spend time with friends and family, sharing moments and realizing how much we value the company of the people we adore. Therefore, the best gift this Eid would be to buy some time and accompany the people who love us, because that is what makes the occasion so special.
