Khalid-Bin-Habib
The BUET Directorate of Student Welfare (DSW) acts as the central support for the clubs and organisations on campus. Its role includes supervising and providing assistance with program planning and implementation. The clubs and organisations at BUET span a wide range of interests that cover sports, music, literature, recreation, culture, and social issues.
BUET Drama Society (BDS) is registered with the office of the BUET Directorate of Student Welfare (DSW). They organise numerous cultural activities throughout the academic year, and play a vital role in creating and fostering a rich cultural environment on campus. BDS has some performing spaces available on campus for the staging of its productions such as BUET Shaheed Minar, Central Auditorium and Café auditorium. These performing spaces are not commercial but function in the interest of academic activities and programmes run by the university authorities. Seminars and Conferences are organised by the organisation periodically. Some have been done in collaboration with other organisations such as Murchhona, BUET Debating Club, BUET Film Society. BDS has staged several plays in the past.
The oraganisation organises stimulant courses for the University students annually. This is done under the auspices of the eminent cultural activists of Bangladesh such as Aly Zaker, Shimul Mustafa, SM Mohsin, Dr Enamul Huque and many others. BDS has put up several performances of plays such as Kamola Kanter Joban Bondi written by Bangkim Chandra, Pushpa Ashcheey written and directed by the current president of BDS Hasib Uddin, Onostitter Upokotha written and directed by Faruk Hannan and many more. They also organised a Language Festival on February 20 and 21 this year.
Participation in these and other groups is strongly encouraged. Students are also encouraged to form clubs that promote their interests and hobbies and help shape their extra-curricular activities.
