It was Razzmatazz!
It was NSU Carnival & Club Fair 2006!

Sabrina Hasan Shoily

Lights were shining brightly, performers were ready to rock the stage, excitement was on and screaming was at its high. Pure merriment was what engulfed the entire hall-room. It was the 'carnival', the razzmatazz of North South University (NSU), which was arranged on the 1stof July 2006 at the Bashundhara Convention Centre in the capital. All our thirteen student activity clubs took part in this mega event.

Amidst a lot of excitement and exuberance, the carnival was announced 'open' at around 12 p.m. by our respected Dean of the School of Business. From that very minute till late at evening, not a single person seemed tired for a moment. There was a lot to do and see at the carnival. The first item was a friendly debate organised by the North South University Debate Club (NSUDC). The debate was participated by the presidents of all the clubs. Every two presidents were called on the stage and asked to describe their clubs. They were also asked to compare their clubs with the other clubs. Questions like 'What does your club has that others don't?' created a lot of buzz among the audience. It was an episode enjoyed with giggles, laughter and a lot of cheering by the members of the clubs as well as the regular students of NSU. The participants came up with witty answers and the host was no less.

After that, the final round of 'NSU Fashion Idol' started. It was organised by North South University Social Service Club (NSUSSC). Among the finalists, the winners were chosen through SMS and also by a distinguished panel of judges. The 'Fashion Idol' showcased young, fashion conscious youth of NSU. Next were a series of performances by the members of the North South University Shangskritik Shangathan (NSUSS). These included a wide range of songs and dance numbers. There was a folk song, a fusion, rap etc.

A magnificent laser show organised by the North South University Computer Club (NSUCC) was next in line. It was a wonderful display of flashy colorful laser lights accompanied by the fast groovy beats, which made our hearts skip a beat!

Last, but not least, James of Nagar Baul came up to rock the stage. He sang a couple of his hit songs, the last one being the 'oh-so-popular' one 'Bheegi bheegi (Na jaane koi)' from the latest Bollywood flick 'Gangster'. The crowd danced to James's tune, forgetting all their worries for some time.

All the clubs made beautiful stalls showcasing their mission and new members' recruitment also went on all day at the venue. Other entertaining activities such as henna & face painting (by NSUSS), various games (by the sports club, NSUSC), and business plan contest (by Young Entrepreneur's Society, YES!) were also enjoyed by everyone.

On the ground floor, an exhibition organised by North South University Photography Club (NSUPC) was also going on. The photographs portrayed 'Life at NSU' through the lenses of the young talents, which we have at NSU.

All in all, it was a very enjoyable day. We got a break from the monotonous routine of studies, exams, assignments etc. Those who missed it, missed something very exciting!
