The secret 'Sea Beach'?
Muntaser Rahman Abir
Students who have joined IUB before 2004 might recall that we used to have a campus at Bashundhara-Baridhara housing area. For most of the IUB students that place was a famous location not for the university itself but for some other reason. In between classes I heard from my seniors that they spent their free time in a secret sea beach. Now if you are talking about a sea beach within Dhaka that will surely make anyone interested. Also as being the fresher, the curiosity of discovering the secrets is a big issue of course. On the other hand it leaves large amount of confusion that the old students planning a prank on the new ones. However to get control over your curiosity is as hard as saying no to the forbidden object.
So gathering courage, one fine afternoon me along with few other friends who were also new in IUB decided that, we will follow the seniors when they will leave for the secret beach. As decided, we followed our pray just as detectives go in search for criminals. We followed them for some over ten to fifteen minutes yet no sign of any roar of sea waves. Just as we were about to abort our mission, our target stopped on a deserted land. We tried to locate any sea but there was nothing except a small river. Disappointed to the extreme, one of my friends got down and screamed “This is it? For this we took this entire trouble?” well friends, he was talking about the Turag river and some parts of it were filled with sand for the expansion of Bashundhara housing. It was a beautiful location to spend time with friends and breathe fresh air. To the IUBans it was known as the 'secret sea beach'.
