"Education can be a difference between you and others" -Confucius
NSU Convocation held

Muhibbul Muktadir Tanim

28th November 2006 was a special and red-letter day for more than five hundred NSU graduates. The day denoted a special value while delivering a composition of emotion, confidence and excitement. This Convocation day also came as a great get-together as graduates met each other and indulged themselves into all kinds of gossips.

The Convocation day composed of two sessions: The Morning session included the convocation procession and ended with the evening session through a convocation dinner and a glamorous cultural program. The Convocation procession was presided by the President and Chancellor of NSU Dr. Iajuddin Ahmed. The Convocation speaker was Ambassador of China in Bangladesh Mr. Chai Xi.

The graduate candidates entered the hall (Bangladesh-China Friendship Auditorium) at 10.30 AM, continued to enter until the Chancellor's arrival. The Chancellor also declared the opening of the convocation after reciting from the Quran and the National theme was followed by his speech. This followed speeches by Mr. Ragib Ali's speech, NSU Foundation Chairman, VC Dr. Hafij GA Siddique's and his excellency Convocation speaker Mr. Chai Xi's speech.

President Iajuddin Ahmed congratulated all the graduates and asked them to serve the country with integrity and knowledge based intelligence. He remembers Kennedy's famous dialog "Ask not what your country done for you, rather ask what you can do for your country." The Chinese Ambassador Chai Xi emphasized on education and its social effect during his speech. He reminisced on the Chinese philosopher Confucius dialog stated 2000 years ago that "Education can be a difference between you and others". Mr. Chai requested graduates to spread the education in their own innovative ways.

The Morning session continued up to 1:45 p.m where 516 graduates received their graduation certificate. The air was filled with tremendous excitement as graduates went forward to receive their certificate the distinguished guest. While receiving the certificates, each graduate's photo was displayed in the big screen enclosing a memorable moment for life. The Black-Gown wearing graduates turned into moving tassels from left to right. The Cap-throwing moment was also very remarkable sprinkling the true emotions. These moments of pride were witnessed by the graduate's parents, relatives, friends and all well-wishers. Continuous clapping in the auditorium echoed the session success. The Photo session was really exciting as well. I mean how does a graduate bind himeself in a frame? How many ways are there to take each moment? With friends, with parents, with faculties, and so on! However, time enforced them to close this photo session. The Human beauty reflects his expectation and his personality to his beliefs. NSU taught us to imagine and keep confidence within ourselves to always ensure our personality.

Nonetheless, around 8:30 pm the convocation dinner started and ended at 12.00 a.m. It was a very focused and glamorous night. Graduates steered onto the floor tapping their feet while mimicking the beats by Miles, a popular band group in Bangladesh. They performed several popular Bengali and English songs. Their last song was 'Fireyae dao [Return my love, my lost love]' and all the graduates thrilled themselves with joy and sorrows ending the show with the inner prayer "Return our University days, don't leave us." Graduate Shafayetul Islam could not control his emotion any further and so he shouted "Bye NSU, we'll keep you with our strength and work". That was the spirit of every graduate at the end of the day which they promised they must overcome.
