There are some very special events in student life that are eagerly awaited and are fondly recalled as the highest point in one's academic career. One such event for any university student is the Convocation. This is the day of achieving lifelong dreams as the graduates receive their certificates. After six long years, this memorable day came in the lives of the graduates of Khulna University. The third convocation of Khulna University was held on March 19, 2007 at the University campus. This was an outstanding occasion, where the former graduates enjoyed different flavors academic attainment as well as got the opportunity to get-together with their peers.
The ceremony sparkled with the presence of Dr Iajuddin Ahmed, the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh as well as the Chancellor of KU. Prof Dr SMA Faiz, vice-chancellor of DU, attended the ceremony as the convocation speaker. The senate and syndicate members were also present. Vice-chancellor of Khulna University Prof Dr Mahbubur Rahman chaired the function. About 1453 graduates were awarded degrees under sixteen disciplines, and 19 graduates were awarded gold medals. The program inaugurated with the convocation procession led by the chancellor. President Dr Iajuddin Ahmed in his speech emphasized the spiraling gap between urban and rural educational facilities, mentioning that such a trend would eventually lead the nation towards an unpleasant consequence. Appreciating Khulna University's special emphasis on research on local natural resources, the chancellor said it is a good initiative to explore the latent potentials of the region. Prof Dr SMA Faiz and Prof Dr Mahbubur Rahman also shared their valuable opinions.
These were part of the formal ceremony, but the real joy was in the ceremony that started prior to the program. To attend the ceremony, numerous convokes who came to Khulna stayed at the University Halls. With their resonant presence with juniors, the hall life turned into a festive one. The entire convocation day was enjoyable to the ex-graduates with a jubilant atmosphere all around. The campus was vibrant with the scores of energetic spirits. In the afternoon, the campus was garlanded with glowing colors. The current students were excited about the company of their seniors. In the evening, a reunion of KU was arranged where Prof Dr Mahbubur Rahman and Prof Dr Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary were Chief Guest and President respectively. Both stressed on the formation of an Alumni Association for KU graduates, through which they can contribute to the development of this institution. Some of the Graduates attending the ceremony delivered speeches, congratulating these novel initiatives and giving some precious suggestions.
The cultural program commenced after the formal session. Enthusiastic participation of the past students made the occasion lively and delightful. Even Dr Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary contributed a song on request from former students. The most outstanding event was the group dance from a troupe of “Sparkling Dance Group” that animated the graduates, singing and dancing in front of the stage. The entire atmosphere was electrifying. The attending students had a buffet dinner preceding the cultural events. They enjoyed the program with high enthusiasm. Upon closing of the program, they left, sharing mutual feelings of grief and joy of their memorable campus life.
