An unforgettable story…
Snigdha Madhuri
It was a summer morning when I along with some of my friends got together at our dormitory to discuss our future plans. Karobi apu, a roommate of one of my friends came to give us an exciting news. It was about a training workshop and insisted us to apply for it. I have to say, we did not anticipate what was waiting for us.
It was about a training workshop on Economic and Trade Related Issues for Media Professionals, which was organized by Unnayan Shamannay, a non-profit independent research organization in Bangladesh. It is a matter of regret that investigative journalism on economic and trade related issues by the media professionals is not widely exercise in our media world. To enrich the knowledge of media professionals, Unnayan Shamannay took an initiative to organize series of training workshops for media professionals. I was one of the participants of that training workshop. It was truly a delightful experience.
Mission overview
After an overwhelming interview session, I got the opportunity to participate in the workshop. During the inaugural ceremony, I realized that Unnayan Shamannay sincerely employed its effort to upgrade our skills and at the same time persuaded us to develop our future career.
Dr. Selim Raihan and Abu Eusuf sir discussed several critical issues of economics in a very simple way. As a result, in spite of being a student of Mass Communication and Journalism, I learnt about many hard topics of economics, corporate governance and corporate responsibility, competition policy and consumers' rights, capital market, budget, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), WTO and Bangladesh, trade related intellectual property rights etc. During that training workshop, I got the opportunity to learn about how to present myself, how to cope with others and the duties towards our country.
Funny but true, one of the main attractions was the Chinese food. That part pretty much managed to attract people who weren't that keen to attend in the first place.
All about my friends
I discovered that most of the participants became good friends especially Sabbir, Afjal, Ripon vai, Karotoya vai, Moni and Edward. They came out very friendly and helpful. Edward was selected the best participant for his heroic performance. I got to know so many extraordinary people through this workshop and I'll always remember them. Unnayan Shamanny and its training workshop gave me a lot. I would like to express gratitude to Unnayan Shamannay and thanks to my lovely friends. Never say goodbye!
