BNCU programme on World Teachers' Day

October 5 was the World Teachers' Day, which is important for both students and teachers. This day reminds the students about the contribution of the teachers in their life and reminds them about their duties and responsibilities to the students. It also reminds the teachers of their achievements and memories in teaching and encourages the new teachers to be ideal ones. To celebrate the day Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO (BNCU) in cooperation with UNESCO, Dhaka office organized a discussion programme on the premises of BCS academy, Shahbag, Dhaka.
Many renowned personalities including former Adviser to the Caretaker Government Dr. Akbar Ali Khan and Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed attended the programme. A good number of new teachers, some students from three eminent educational institutions such as Viqarunnisa Noon School & College, Birshrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Rifles College and Govt. Laboratory High School were present in the programme.
M.A. Awal Mojumder, additional secretary of the Ministry of Education brought forward the programme. Dr. Mahmudul Hasan, secretary of BNCU delivered the welcome speech. Professor Najim Uddin, Chairman of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, Dhaka and Professor Abdul Wahid shared their experiences as veteran teachers. Some students also delivered speeches revealing their expectations from a good teacher.
Dr. Akber Ali Khan expressed his rejoice and paid his profound respect to his teachers. UNESCO country director of Bangladesh, Malama Meliesa pointed at the sorrowful condition of the people engaged in teaching. But he highlighted the greatest contribution of the teachers of the society. Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed emphasized on the present condition of the teachers and made a call to everyone to create an environment to improve their condition as well as make space so that better people can come to this profession and give the best service.
