Dream of the young generation
Taslima Rawshan Tinni
To begin with, I want to tell it to everyone that I am the proud daughter of a Freedom Fighter.
Though we have achieved our independence as a sovereign country, many of our dreams are yet to be fulfilled. On this important day of 16 December let us see how much we have achieved in the last three decades and how the students of new generation want to see Bangladesh after ten years from now? What improvements they want to see in different sectors?
In my quest for answers, I talked to some students of Business Study of Dhaka University, a student studying abroad, a student of A level's and a student studying in East West University.

"A nation that has seen the rule of colonialism and political and social upheavals is celebrating its 36th anniversary today, which itself is no less than an accomplishment. Bangladesh is now looking forward to steady yet important transitions. Looking back to the history, Bangladesh never had a law and order system that can be recognized as sound and effective. All it needs is a gradual move towards stability rather than a radical revolution. The government may try to make the system stronger in that it may reduce corruption and maintain the rule of law. Bangladesh may be on the track but within ten years probably it is too optimistic to expect much better law and order system than the prevailing one. The economy, society, and culture are going through shifts that may or may not become prevalent in ten years. I guess the economy will get better as investors will be more aware of the markets, investments, and business projects. I don't think the economy will take a downturn unless political instability strikes hard. I believe we have enough reasons to become concerned about our heritage. The trend in today's young generation, their irresistible fascination towards western style, and ignorance about the essence of our culture may pose as a threat to our existence. If things keep going as is, the nation may lose its tradition and culture or may see it waning in an irreversible way. The society is changing fast. This will keep on with increased promotion for secularism, less conservatism, more inclination to accept changes (both positive and negative) and so forth in the near future. Education is the sector I see most promising as more and more people are realizing the importance of knowledge and is keen on getting academic education. I believe the country will find more educated and skilled workforce which will help acknowledge the role of labour efficiency and equilibrium wage rate based on individual core competency."

Education:
1. Education should truly aim at harmonious development of body, mind and soul. With that aim in view there should be compulsory general education based on religion and ethics under unified national curriculum up to class X. Thereafter students should have freedom of choosing preferred field of education. Discrimination in education system should be eliminated.
Social:
2. Social system should aim at ensuring equal opportunity for all so that everyone can exploit his full potentialities. Society should be based on justice; free from exploitation, nepotism, favouritism, drug abuse, corruption, terrorism, disease and sexual harassment. Along with the increased governmental efforts more social clubs, associations and institutions should be organized to ensure an ideal society.
Political:
3. A political system should be evolved that ensures assumption of political power by the people of knowledge, wisdom and integrity. The government of fools and bulls cannot ensure meaningful democracy
Cultural:
4. Our cultural life should be a fine blend of our religion, language and tradition. No scope should be there for degeneration of our youth.
Law and Order:
5. A professional and corruption-free police force will be built to ensure law and order and fundamental rights of all.
Economy:
6. We should come out of vicious cycle of poverty and our country's name should be struck out of the list of LDCs. A self-sustained economy should be developed that ensures employment opportunity for all. We need a market economy with necessary state intervention to protect the underprivileged and downtrodden and create an economic environment where the poor don't become poorer and the rich richer.

"1. ECONOMIC PERSPECTIVE: Income inequality must be reduced. The economy should run in such a way that the resources will be utilised within the country for highest benefit for the common masses.
2.CULTURAL:Here I would like to say that we've our own precious unique culture. So, we should not blindly follow any foreign culture. If we practice our culture and show respect to it as well as try to enrich it further then I believe our culture will be appreciated by others in the world.
3.EDUCATION: I think our education system is totally in default. It needs changes. This is because students from English medium cannot speak Bangla well. Similarly, students from Bangla medium cannot speak English well. Did such things happen in our father's or grandfather's time? No. Because at that time any educated person could speak both Bangla and English fluently. The reason behind this is that the education system was very good then. That is why I think the first thing we have to change is our primary education system. Both Eenglish and Bangla should be given equal importance. English medium schools should give importance to Bangla and Bangla medium schools should give importance to English. Secondly, at the university level, student politics should be totally banned.
4.LAW AND ORDER: Accountability as well as transperency should exist. All regulatory bodies must have the mentality to give answer to any question of the general people about any terms and condition they have applied.
5.INDUSTRY: Industries should be established in the rural areas so that more employment opportunities are created here in such a way that people will not need to migrate to the urban areas."

"Aftar the next election I want to see ministers talking about raising government employees remuneration rather than their own. If they can do this then corruption will definitely be reduced and people will engage in economic activities more freely. I wan to see national capital being formed where every Bangladeshi will contribute and which will be invested in national projects. This will reduce our dependence on foreign aid. Each Bangladeshi will be ultimate beneficiary.
In the education sector, I think tuition fees of private universities should be reduced so that most of the general students can afford that.”

Bangladesh is our motherland. In the month of Victory we have to make promise to ameliorate our beloved country day by day. As a citizen of this country we have some responsibilities towards the development of our nation. But in the development process, two parties are involved, the government and the citizens. None can alone take the country on the road to progress. After 10 years I want to see that my country will be able to make significant progress in the educational, economic and agricultural sectors, which in turn will ensure overall progress of the country.

Economic: After 10 years no one will live under extreme poverty line, and the dream of Dr. Younus " for knowing poverty, we have to go to the museum" will come true.
Social: After 10 years, people will be more self-centric. The concept of relationship, friendship and family life will not be like as it is today.
Cultural: Due to advancement of technology and communication people will adopt global culture than their own culture. But this trend may destroy many small groups and their culture.
Educational: After 10 years, secondary education may be mandatory. And we may not find any person who is illiterate.
Law and order: It will be better than what it is today. Better technology will be there to support this. Overall, the people will be more conscious about their rights and better living conditions.

In the educational sector, after 10 years, I would like to see a qualitative improvement from the root level to the top level, that is from the primary school level to the University level. But what I don't want to see is the commercialization of eduaction.

Political: If the current reform process continues then in next five to ten years our democracy would flourish further and politicians will be more patriotic.
Economic: After liberation war, we set a new objective, economic independence. There is a huge gap between expectation and realization. This is the end result of dependence on different multilateral institutions and developed countries. Now Bangladesh is trying to depart from this trap. Initial cost of this progress will be high but after ten to fifteen years it will attain significant economic independence.
Cultural: Perpetuation of national culture and carry it to the next generations is a difficult and important undertaking. Our previous generation didn't do that effectively. Our governments traditionally impose restrictions on free flow of information, which is essential for cultural maturity. If this continues, we will fall further back after ten years.
Education: Effective system, support and upgrading of system are essential for development of education over time. We didn't upgrade on a regular basis with regard to global change. Export of merits creates lacking in efficient support. Contribution of this process disfigures our education in a global competition.
Law and order: Independent judiciary, highly valued culture and education build up a strong law and order. Skill and understanding of effective law enforcement are also necessary factors.

Education- educational institutions should be in the private sector.

As a student naturally I want to see Bangladesh after 10 years to have progressed in education sector. We all love our mother language definitely but we should also know the international language to compete internationally. Besides, as a business graduate I know the importance of business knowledge and that should be included in the curriculum at all levels.
As a woman I want to see our female population become strong, educated and self-dependent. Their contribution to family and country should be recognised. A mother whose children are asset for the country should be given due recognition and respect.
Finally, I can undoubtedly say that we dream of a country where political parties and people will be aware of terrorism, violence and health issues; women will be given respect and treated as human beings and not as machine; freedom fighters will be given the honour they deserve. We all are eagerly waiting for that Bangladesh.

Law and Order: According to many, the most dissatisfactory sector is law and order. Because during the last decades murders, smuggling, mugging, terrorism and many other crimes increased rapidly defying law enforces.
Education: I expect to have an educational system with more collaboration of the three mediums of education English, Bengali and Madrasa because it is like three children in one country are in three different tracks.
Social: Education is the only way to remove all the social ills and stigmas. We have to show respect to women because they are our mothers, sisters and daughters.
Cultural: People must acknowledge their own culture and develop it for our next generation to take it to the new height. Politics: Our political condition is destroying many of the values and norms. Politics is beyond the reach of the ordinary people and is centralized in the hands of the rich. We need proactive politicians with visions and planning to reach the top after 10 years.
Economics: Economically, Bangladesh is a very sound country with local and foreign investments soaring up. The collection of remittances is strengthening our foreign reserve.

Being a citizen of a developing country, I believe it is necessary for our nation to be educated. There is a saying that, Knowledge is power,” thus, through knowledge we can build a country with a strong background. A country with a high literacy rate is something, which every citizen of Bangladesh should desire. At the same time, there should be greater use of advanced technology, which includes computers, cell phones, Internet service etc. More wireless communication system should be developed in order to make our lives more convenient and easier.
Despite of all the hardships that our country goes through, at the end of the day, each citizen should feel proud to be a Bangladeshi and look forward to achieving success at all levels through education.
