“English Belongs to Me!” ends in BIJEM
THE first batch of a specially designed English language course titled “English Belongs to Me!” organized by Bangladesh Institute of Journalism & Electronic Media (BIJEM) for learners of undergraduate courses at different universities ended in a high note on 22 March, Saturdaywith group presentations on numerous socio-cultural topics. The invited audience greatly appreciated the lively presentations and qs-ans sessions by the participants, the same people who couldn't utter a single sentence out of fear or weakness when the course started! Unlike any usual English training course, this was an exceptional one in many respects. Firstly, the participants were exclusively chosen from people who are categorically afraid of, and weak in, English as a whole. Secondly, the classes were conducted in multimedia-clad AC rooms in a very cozy style where all were made to behave as family members from day one.
Thirdly, instant debate, songs and impromptu drama were three core elements of the interesting teaching-learning strategies. And finally not to mention of the prolific speaking & writing experts who conducted the course like elder brothers and sisters ('sir' & 'madam' were banned jargons, by the way).
Delighted participants later on spoke how tremendously they were benefitted from every class and vowed to carry on with whatever creative things they lad learnt. Minakhy, Afsana, Rinku, Pima, Biplob, Shyama, Mohsin, Delwar, Arafat, Shafayet and Zakir were some of the 'high-profile' figures among the learners who unanimously felt that like them, others should also own English like mother tongue. BIJEM's Director Mirza Tarequl Qader mentioned that the success of this first group has already drawn massive participants for the coming batches.
