Adventurous Journey Training Programme for Award Leaders

ADVENTUROUS Journey Training Programme for Award Leaders was conducted to familiarize Award Leaders with procedures for conducting the adventurous journey component of the award. The training served as the spark to blaze a new trail for new and holistic education systems for the future, where learning begins and ends in the real world alongside standard classroom education.

The objective is to train students for leadership skills, increased self-confidence, have new experiences both physical and mental and have a great time doing it. The skills involve planning details and executing of walking, trekking, residency, campfire, cooking at least one meal and other activities. The other objective of the trip was to search out sites for future trips.

The team of thirty-six was split into two groups and one was sent to Sylhet and the other to Comilla to bring back diversity in shared experiences.

The Sylhet team stayed at the Ispahani Mirzapore Estate Rest house, a very beautiful and befitting location for the tour objectives. There was plenty of trekking and hill climbing opportunities offered by the surrounding sites. At night, the clear black sky enabled the Orion and Seven sisters to be clearly visible with countless many other stars and inspired poetic moments and memories of family and dear ones. There was a professor singing 'Twinkle twinkle little star' after recollecting the forgotten lines from his son by cell-phone. Everyone else joined in and singing continued late into the night.

The peak moment of the next day's trip was at Madhubkundo. The sheer magnificence and majesty of the sight was something to behold. The environment had some elements of a fairy tale and experiencing raw nature inspired to bring out the best of admirers and photographers alike. It made the participants feel new found wonder and respect for the nature. On the way back, we passed through Lauhachora National forest and it was an unparallel experience to relish. The Comilla team resided at BARD. For their activities, they had lots of walking, visiting ancient heritage sites, open air cooking, getting lost in thick vegetation and for adventure, they had warnings from the locals of possible encounters with the supernatural!

From all the day's activities, there was restful sleep, and renewed meanings of family and home and a faith that those left behind can make it on their own in life without all the trappings, as it was originally intended. It motivates one to take life lightheartedly. Value and honour those around as invaluable reflections of ourselves. New bonds are formed and internal commitments are made to help and change everyone's lives for the better. The memories that remain are those of comic turns, constant teasing and pickings and of tears and aching tummies- from laughter!

What remains is to convey these realizations and convictions to those who follow, so that we value the human enterprise and the planet that we call home.
