Greatest tribute yet to be shown…

Ariful Islam Laskar

DREAM works as an impetus to develop the foundation of a country. Similarly, the seed of our country's dream was sowed by the valiant Muktijodhas who sacrificed their life for a better Bangladesh. But, the question lies, did we make their dream come true?

Though many of us know about the very dream but to quench the million dollar curiosity I will take a chance to discuss it. The dream was quite simple, the aspirations were logical. In plain words it was to build a country free from segregation, hunger and any sort of exploitation. A country where everybody would be free to put forward their opinions in their own language, to get equal opportunities. A country where everybody would enjoy the basic needs of food, shelter, clothing, health and education.

Today, we recall the supreme sacrifices of the Muktijodhas. We pay respect by bestowing floral wreaths in their graveyard or monument. But, the perennial question is that is it all regarding the accomplishment of their dream?

I believe all these have been vague shows. Every year, on especial occasions, our politicians keep themselves busy only to show their vague patriotism. Many organizations use these days only to expose their names and brands. Actually, this has become an everyday drama to them. But, still there are some people and organizations who really feel for the supreme sacrifices of our valiant leaders. But in reality we all are confused what to do in this crucial juncture. I think it is the prime time for the young generation of the country to show their courage, honesty, and integrity. This is the moment when we should work together forgetting all sort of discrimination in building the nation. At last, I want to say that, the only way to fulfil the dreams of those valiant leaders is to keep the prestige of this country high. And, that would be the greatest and highest gratitude shown to them.

New Aspirations

Nadia Wahab

AFTER nine months of a bloody war finally on 16th December, 1971 our people brought victory to home. They showed the whole world their bravery, and how they established Bangladesh as an independent nation. Many of the democratic governments as well as military rulers came to power at different times with their own strategy to run this country. Some of them failed while others succeeded. On 11th of January, 2007 when the condition of the country began to deteriorate drastically, caretaker government declared 'state of emergency' across the country and took the charge of running it to handle the political turmoil. After many ups and downs, on 29th December 2008, 9th parliamentary election was held, where AL-led grand alliance won and formed the government. It seems to be a big change as well as a challenge. After two years, we have learned that to make democracy work we must believe in it, we must nurture it, we must cherish it and we must protect it. As an independent nation we now stand on the threshold of something extraordinary. We stand on that platform where we have to prove our identity and have to step forward into the promise of a bright new day. We might never have this moment of opportunity again and never again have such a chance to start our national journey in a new dimension. So, as a conscious nation we all have to keep pace with the rest of the world and move ahead with new inspiration.
