International Dance Day 2009

Compiled by Star Campus Desk

IN 1982, the International Dance Committee founded International Dance Day to be celebrated every year on the 29th of April. The date commemorates the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, who was born in 1727 and was a great reformer of dance.

Every year a message from a well-known dance personality is circulated throughout the world. Among the goals of the Dance Day are to increase the awareness of the importance of dance among the general public, as well as to persuade governments all over the world to provide a proper place for dance in all systems of education, from primary to higher. The day is observed in Bangladesh with processions, discussions on television and stage, and dance performances. Artistes from Dhaka and other places participate in these festivities.
