Celebration of Shakespeare’s Birthday at Jahangirnagar

Farhat Tasannum Farah

THE World's all time greatest play writer William Shakespeare's birthday was solemnized with colourful arrangements in the Department of English, Jahangirnagar University on the 26h April, 2009. It was also an orientation day for the freshers of the dept. The new faces of the dept. have been introduced with the tradition of the dept., which shows that the dept. organizes Shakespeare's birthday in a magnificent manner every year.

The students gathered all the Shakespearean characters together and staged a comic parody! They also wrote an elegy for this genius. They acted and composed music behind a Shakespearean sonnet. They recited "poothigaan"; a mockery manuscript.

The students decorated the dept. with lots of balloons with festivity. Had Shakespeare been alive today he would become too surprised to see the grand celebration of his birthday organized by the students of the Dept. of English.

Dr. Shamsad Mortuza-the Chair of the Dept. initiated the programme through his valuable speech for the freshers. Professor. Shaheen M Kabir, Mohammad Rafiq, Raihan Sharif, Sabera Sultana and Tania Sharmin were present on this occasion and inspired the participants of the celebration programme as well as the freshers of the dept.
